Three holy and sacred cotton strands, known as janeu or janoi or sacred thread, are a representation of sacrifice, motherhood, spirituality, and other concepts. Three important concepts of hinduism are represented by the janeu, worn on the left shoulder. These concepts include the importance of the spiritual path as well as the obligation to one’s parents and spiritual teachers.
